New York State Spotlight

The Empire State is in the process of restructuring its health care systems to improve access and quality of care for New Yorkers. Building on a legacy of coverage, the state is moving forward with Medicaid expansion and has developed its own State-based Marketplace, the New York State of Health.
What's the Story on Medicaid Expansion?
  • Current Status: Expanding Medicaid
  • Key Info: In March 2013, Governor Andrew Cuomo (D), with the support of the Legislature, enacted budget legislation to expand Medicaid. This expansion will extend Medicaid coverage to an additional 168,000 New Yorkers. The state will phase-out the Family Health Plus (FHP) program and provide wraparound premium assistance for parents between 133% and 150% FPL as they move from FHP to purchasing coverage through the Marketplace.
